French club president: ‘Liverpool have made an offer,’ for excellent Portuguese

Liverpool’s pursuit for a new left-back seems to have ramped up, with Lorient vice-president Alex Hayes confirming that we are one of four clubs to have made an offer for Raphael Guerreiro, reports the Metro.

The fullback is 22 and will start for Portugal at this summer’s Euros, and has impressed Ligue 1 fans with his bombarding runs up the left.

“For now four major foreign clubs, including Dortmund and Liverpool have made an offer,” Hayes said.

Dortmund have already beaten us to Ousmane Dembele this summer, and the thought of getting involved in another transfer tug of war with the German giants feels ominous – having also previously lost out to the in our pursuit of Henrikh Mkhitaryan a few years back.

The pursuit of Guerreiro though proves Jurgen Klopp is trying to properly bolster the left-back position following a season plagued by inconsistency from Alberto Moreno.

We’re rumoured to be close to Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell (via ITV Sport), but it seems that he’s only being targeted as a talented youth prospect. Of course, it could mean if both Chilwell and Guerreiro sign that Moreno will be surplus to requirements.

Guerreiro is speedy and more renowned for his offensive strengths, much like our current incumbent of the position!
