Earlier today, we revealed the four latest fixtures to have been added to our pre-season calendar.

Now it’s been confirmed that one of those games – the match against Huddersfield Town on July 20th – we see an all-new “Shankly Trophy” awarded to the winner (via Huddersfield Town FC official site).

Of course, the legendary Bill Shankly is an icon to both clubs. After starting his managerial career at Carlisle United, he moved to Grimsby Town and Workington before eventually taking over at The Terriers in 1956. In 1959 he made the switch to Anfield and went on to become one of the club’s most successful managers, taking us from the old second division to three league titles, two FA Cups, and a UEFA Cup victory. He eventually stepped down in 1974 and was replaced by the equally iconic Bob Paisley.

Fast-forward to modern times and it sees our current boss Jurgen Klopp go head-to-head with his former Borussia Dortmund colleague and best friend David Wagner who is currently in charge of the Yorkshire club.

Huddersfield finished 19th in the Championship last season, though they avoided the drop by a somewhat comfortable 11 points.
