Mamadou Sakho considering a lawsuit against UEFA

Mamadou Sakho will consider suing UEFA following their decision that his 30 day provisional ban will not be extended, reports Sky Sports.

Our much loved French defender was temporarily banned towards the end of last summer, pending an investigation into his positive test for a ‘banned’ fat burner.

It meant he missed the end of our season and the Europa League Final, and naturally wasn’t selected in Didier Deschamps’ initial Euro 2016 squad either.

His lawyers successfully argued that the substance he consumed shouldn’t have been on the banned list anyway thankfully, and now, the 26-year-old plans to fight back for the trauma UEFA’s mistake has caused him in court.

Not only did they damage his reputation but Sakho missed out on some career defining moments due to the blunder, although there’s a chance he’ll now be reinstated into the France squad, with Deschamps having until May 31 to make his final selection.

UEFA seem to have it in for Liverpool. They’ve been handing fines for everything they can think of this season, and right royally stitched us up with Sakho. What would have happened had the centre-back been fit for Basel? We’ll never know, although in fairness, his replacement that night Kolo Toure was our best player.

In a brief statement on Sakho, UEFA said: “The 30-day provisional suspension ends today. The chairman of the control, ethics and disciplinary body decided not to extend it.

“The player would thus be free to play as from tomorrow. A decision on the case will be made within the next few days.”
