Sturridge admits wearing aftershave during matches & claims to love strawberry moisturiser

We wonder what Shankly would have said to Tommy Smith if the defender had lathered himself up before a game and put on a bit of Joop in the changing rooms…

Sadly, we’ll never know – but we do know that when it comes to image and body confidence, Daniel Sturridge has it in abundance.

The striker has told a lifestyle magazine that he wears aftershave for matches because he likes smelling it, and couldn’t live without moisturiser!

“People might think it’s strange, but I like smelling it, so it’s not about what anyone else thinks,” he told GQ magazine.

“Fragrance probably shows people who you are as much as your clothes do.”

“Totally honest, I’d say moisturiser,” he said, when asked what product he couldn’t live without. “I really like the Body Shop one – strawberry. I just don’t like my body being dry.

“I need my skin to feel smooth and moisturised.”

Sturridge is one of many current England players being panned in the media right now for living luxurious, detached lifestyles – lacking the required grit of stars from yesteryear – and he’ll likely get a bit of stick for these quotes as a result!

In truth though, they’re irrelevant, and Sturridge can do as he pleases so long as he stays fit and actively contributes on the pitch for Liverpool.

He’ll have a rest now, before beginning his first full pre-season since 2014 – having missed the entirety of the last one with an injury. It’ll be interesting to see what Jurgen Klopp chooses to work on with the forward, who at times, appeared to struggle to adapt tactically to the German’s demands despite his goal threat.

Regardless, we’re certain that if we keep Sturridge fit for the season he’ll reach 20 goals without much problem at all. Let’s keep our fingers crossed he can develop a proper base level of fitness during the summer before 2016/17.
