We have just confirmed the signing of Georginio Wijnaldum in a £25 million move from Championship side, Newcastle United.

According to the Echo, he passed his medical on Friday afternoon and has agreed a five-year deal with the club. He rejected Tottenham’s interest in favour of a move to Anfield.

He becomes our seventh signing of what is rapidly becoming a busy summer for the club. Joel Matip, Marko Grujic, Loris Karius, Ragnar Klavan, Alex Manninger, and Sadio Mane have all already put pen to paper.

Apparently, we will pay £23 million up front in cash, within up to £2 million more to follow in add-ons over the coming months and years.

Wijnaldum will get on a flight this weekend and join up with the rest of the first-team squad on their tour of the United States.

He could feature against Chelsea on Wednesday, depending on the assessment of fitness staff once he lands.
