Klopp’s quotes suggest Sturridge absence won’t last long despite Tottenham omission

Daniel Sturridge was left out of our 1-1 draw with Spurs at the weekend, but Jurgen Klopp has now moved to reassure both the fans and the player himself that he won’t be out of the side for long.

It was a tumultuous week for the England man; he turned in a poor performance on the wing against Burnley but came on to bag a late brace against Burton Albion three days later. He then expressed his desire to play centrally on Thursday and was only given a two-minute cameo against Tottenham on Saturday.

But Klopp says he will get his chance:

“Daniel Sturridge is a wonderfully skilful player. But for the game today, I made the decision that the kind of defending what it was and for what we needed,” he said (via Echo).

“In the last game against Tottenham at home he made an outstanding game so it’s possible.

“But I can only pick 11 players for the start, I make these decisions never against one player so I’m really happy that we have him and he will play, he will score and all will be good.”
