Didn’t you mother always tell you, don’t put your stadium roof in the tumble dryer?
New pictures published on the Echo’s website today show that the roof of the Kop has shrunk ahead of the grand opening of the new Main Stand at the weekend.
But, don’t worry, it’s quite deliberate.
The club decided to take a chunk out of the sides and the front of the historic stand so that visitors in the upper reaches of the new Main Stand would be able to get a panoramic view of the iconic Kop.
According to club bosses, if you sit on the front rows of the Kop you’ve got no reason to worry — the roof will still cover you and you’ll stay dry.
We are not sure how much we believe that one, they’ve obviously never seen the rain lashing in off the Irish Sea in the middle of winter!
