Mamadou Sakho given surprising reprieve with U23 side

Mamadou Sakho has been named as unlikely starter in our U23s game with Wolfsburg tonight.

The French international was once again in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the weekend after an ill-judged and ill-timed outburst on Snapchat.

But he has been given a surprise reprieve as the U23s play their first Premier League International Cup game tonight (Echo).

He will partner Portuguese international Tiago Ilori in centre defence for the tie.

The defender accused Klopp and the club of lying about his fitness and said he was ready to take to the pitch.

Sakho has not kicked a ball in a competitive game since April after being banned for doping, picking up an injury, and being sent home from our tour of the USA.

He was told to leave the club on loan on the final day of the transfer window, but rejected a move to Stoke.

LIVERPOOL U23s: Kelleher, Randall, Maguire, Ilori, Sakho, Virtue, Wilson, Chirivella, T Gomes, Brannagan, Woodburn. Subs: Whelan, Firth, Lennon, Brewitt, Juanma, Lewis, Philiips.
