Mourinho slams the timing of Liverpool vs Manchester United clash

Jose Mourinho has lashed out at the timing of the Liverpool vs Man Utd clash at Anfield in a couple of weeks time.

The game is currently scheduled for Monday 17th October at 8pm and marks the first fixture after the international break.

But for United it comes at a critical juncture of their season. They have to face Zorya Luhansk at Old Trafford in the Europa League three days later, then play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge the following Sunday. With no European football, we can enjoy a full week of training before welcoming West Brom to Anfield on the next Saturday.

“Well, we could play Liverpool on the Saturday, we could play Liverpool on the Sunday,” he said. “We play Liverpool on the Monday. (Echo)

“So maybe we don’t have the best conditions, especially because we play against two top Premier League games that don’t play in European competitions.

“We had this kind of poisoned gift of playing on the Monday. That creates a very difficult situation, but we want to try and qualify for the next round. We want to try.”

United have endured a mixed start to the new season. They started the campaign with three wins from three, but then lost three consecutives games and slipped down the table. They returned to form with a 4-1 win at home to Leicester last week. They face Stoke at home on Sunday.
