Midfielder refuses to look beyond the next game as Liverpool go joint top of the league

It is difficult not to get excited by the sight of Liverpool going level on points at the top of the Premier League, but Jordan Henderson is doing a pretty good job of that.

The Liverpool captain has taken the most professional and sensible outlook on his side’s impressive run of form so far this season.

Speaking after yesterday’s 4-2 win against Crystal Palace, he told Liverpoolfc.com: “I’ve said before that we’ve just got to concentrate on our game, take each game as it comes, keep winning and keep the momentum going.”

“We’ll see where we are at the end of the season. We’re not getting ahead of ourselves – we’re just concentrating throughout the week on what we need to do on the next opposition and what our game-plan is. We’ll take it game by game.”

Taking each game as it comes sounds cliché, but that’s exactly what we must do.

That’s the attitude Claudio Ranieri implemented at Leicester last season, and look where that landed them.

It’s a long season and looking past the next game is pointless when considering the injuries that can crop up out of nowhere and the shock results that will have a significant impact on the league.

Jurgen Klopp will be the first to remind his players that there is a lot they can improve on and it will be these objectives that will be key in ensuring the team has something specific to work towards each week.

There is a long way to go, so let’s keep our feet grounded but also continue to enjoy the exciting attacking football we are currently playing.
