If Philippe Coutinho is happy to be at Liverpool, then we are even happier.

Rodney Goncalves, Coutinho’s former youth coach at Vasco da Gama, has outlined his close friend’s ambitions at Liverpool and also believes he will be a key figure in helping Brazil become a force to be reckoned with once more.

He also had his say on the comparisons being made between Coutinho and Brazilian football’s current poster boy.

He told the Telegraph: “Whenever we speak he always says that is very happy at Liverpool and his biggest challenge is to win the Premier League and Champions League with Liverpool.”

“His ambition is to be in the list of the top 10 players [in the world].”

“The Brazil squad needed to renew itself after the World Cup and everybody expected that he would be selected. Now he is, and this moment is very special. With Neymar and Coutinho playing together again, they are seen as the couple that can give us a lot of titles.”

“Coutinho can be compared to Neymar, but Coutinho is Coutinho. He can become a very popular in Brazil and around the world like Neymar, he just needs to get a sequence of games in the Brazilian squad.”

Coutinho is on a mission to bring success back to two footballing giants.

His desire to help Brazil experience the glory days again is something that will also benefit Liverpool. He is maturing as a player and taking it upon himself as one of the best players in both teams, to take the game to the opposition and do his very best to lead the fight.

If he continues to play at the level he has done so far this season, then there is no reason why he won’t, one day, find himself to be one of the ten best players in the world. Consistency and his will to be the best, will be key.

He has the potential to be as great a player as his good friend and international teammate Neymar, is. Let’s just hope he fulfils this potential whilst wearing a Liverpool shirt.
