World-class 32-year-old keeper linked to Liverpool amid concerns current pair aren’t up to scratch

Liverpool are considering a summer deal for Inter Milan’s experienced but top notch keeper Samir Handanovic, reports the usually unreliable Metro.

A few other outlets have picked up on it, and it’s on Liverpoolfc.com’s media watch section – which always surprises us in truth.

Simon Mignolet was dropped for Loris Karius earlier in the season, only for the new signing to lose his place after some shoddy performances. Now, the more experienced Belgian has committed some howlers and many fans are demanding a new stopper signs in the summer to usurp both.

Handanovic is a good keeper, but we’re not sure if Jurgen Klopp would bring in someone his age. He turns 33 this summer which isn’t necessarily too old for a keeper – but isn’t especially young either.

The fact we bought Loris Karius, 23, in 2016, suggests Klopp wants a young keeper to improve, develop and play between the sticks for us throughout his tenure in charge.

Handanovic does have many of the goalkeeping traits Liverpool would desire, though. His shot-stopping is excellent and he’s very fast off his line, which would enable us to play a high defence. He’s commanding, decent with his feet and not afraid to come for a cross.

We’d take Handanovic in the summer, certainly – we just can’t see it happening. In fact, despite suggestions we need to buy a new goalkeeper – we’re sure Klopp will stick with what he’s got and address other areas of the team.
