Klopp: Wijnaldum has become the complete midfielder

Jurgen Klopp has taken time to praise Gini Wijnaldum, who he says is beginning to show he can be both a defensive and offensive asset to our side.

The Dutchman was phenomenal last time out against Spurs, assisting Sadio Mane’s opener with a terrific through-ball and providing an all-action display against the likes of Victor Wanyama and Dele Alli – two of the most effective midfielders in the land.

Klopp says he almost didn’t select the Dutchman because of Emre Can’s good performances against Chelsea and Hull (we can’t remember those…), but is glad he did.

“It was not the easiest decision of my life because it was not too long ago that Emre was outstanding against Chelsea and in Hull,” Klopp told the Mirror

“But in this game Georginio showed a really good combination of an aggressive, defensive midfielder plus a creative, offensive midfield player.

“It feels good. It feels different to the last few weeks so we should use the time to enjoy and then prepare again.”

For us, a midfield triumvirate of Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana and Wijnaldum is key to our chance from now until the end of the campaign.

We do think Can has potential and a future (providing he extends his deal), but the boss should put his eggs in the more basked of the more experienced, creative trio.
