Liverpool’s defence set to be strengthened ahead of Arsenal clash

It will undoubtedly take Reds all week to get over Monday night’s loss to Leicester but there’s a chance that it isn’t all doom and gloom.

A match at Anfield against a top six rival is one that is by now welcomed by supporters as opposed to facing those teams looking up from the bottom half of the Premier League table.

There’s more confidence about our chances against an Alexis Sanchez-led Arsenal than there is about our chances against Burnley the week after.

One man who could hand Jurgen Klopp’s side a boost is Dejan Lovren with the defender expected to be fit again after a short spell on the side-lines. He could also be joined by Daniel Sturridge who was ruled out of the loss to Leicester due to illness.

“Sturridge is expected to be available for Arsenal’s visit to Anfield on Saturday, when Dejan Lovren should also return having missed Liverpool’s past three matches with a knee problem,” Andy Hunter reported in the Guardian.

A partnership of Lovren and Joel Matip is something Reds fans have been desperate to see for a while with Liverpool’s two first choice centre-backs having only played together 12 times under Klopp so far.

It goes without saying that we need all of our key players fit for the remainder of our games and a decisive stage of the season. Not only do Liverpool need Lovren’s defensive qualities, but they need his leadership.
