As well as Michael Keane, Liverpool now want another England defender…

There’s been plenty of links to Burnley’s Michael Keane over the past few days, following the 24-year-old’s England debut against Germany midweek.

He did fairly well and with his contract expiring in 2018, would be available at a fair price, most likely.

With Chris Smalling injured, Gareth Southgate has called up Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson as a replacement, and like clockwork – the centre-half has become a Liverpool target!

The Daily Mail reckon that along with Manchester City and Spurs, we’re considering Gibson, who’ll be very available if ‘Boro get relegated, as is looking increasingly likely.

Interestingly, Liverpool employ Jonathan Woodgate as a scout, and the Englishman has very close ties to ‘Boro having played there for many years. He could hold the key to a potential deal, as he knows Gibson personally and rates him very highly.

Gibson is a ball-playing defender, as proven by Pep Guardiola’s interest, and at 24-years-old, is the right age to kick on.

The question remains, however: is he an improvement on what we already have…?
