Yesterday two stories broke that caused Liverpool fans issues.
Firstly, Sky Sports claimed that Southampton expected to keep Virgil Van Dijk this summer and that the Dutchman wouldn’t be sold.
Secondly, the Mirror claimed that as a result of us missing out on our no.1 centre-back target, we’d made a £25m bid for Burnley’s Michael Keane…
Many supporters found this apparent switch in targets pretty unambitious, and took to Twitter to share their views.
The majority don’t see the formerly rejected Manchester United Academy player as an upgrade on what we have, and lamented Liverpool for not setting our targets higher.
Here’s what some had to say:
Cannot understand paying £25m for Michael Keane. Had a good season for Burnley but it’s a hell of a step up to go from that into Europe.

If Michael keane is the calibre of player we’re going to be signing don’t even bother qualifying for the champions league what’s the point

Michael Keane is our target if we get CL football? I’m no expert on him but shouldn’t he be the back-up target if we do not get CL football?

£25m for Michael Keane? To be your leading centre back in a title chasing side? Not sold on that one.

We will sign Michael Keane and Demari Grey this summer to show that we have learned absolutely nothing. Another rebuild on the horizon.

Seeing unsubstantiated rumours about Michael Keane, & contemplating putting my head in an industrial blender, already.

Imagine going through all of this, securing CL, only for LFC to grace us with a Michael Keane & Lovren CB pairing next. State of this club.
