Shoot-out heartache for Rhian Brewster as England fall short in bid for Euro glory

Liverpool starlet Rhian Brewster saw his European U17 Championship tournament end disappointingly on Friday as England lost in the final on penalties to Spain.

The Reds striker had been a prominent figure in a young England side that has dispatched five opponents to earn a showdown with a highly talented Spanish outfit.

Brewster’s heartbreak somewhat started in the sixth minute of injury time when Ignacio Diaz’s header from a corner found a way into the back of the net to cancel out England’s 2-1 lead in devastating fashion.

The decisive penalty shootout saw Brewster’s strike hit the post before Joel Latibeaudiere fired over from the spot to allow Spain to go on and win 4-1.

Liverpool’s teenage star had been a prominent figure for his country, leading the attack and scoring three goals in the process- two of which came in the opening game.

His teammates and coaches back on Merseyside will undoubtedly be ready to welcome him home and ensure they are there to help him overcome the defeat. He has a interesting summer ahead of him and the chance to potentially play in some exciting pre-season games, in which he will get the opportunity to again show Jurgen Klopp what he can do.

Head up, Rhian.
