It was reported last night, by the Mirror, that Liverpool have been blown out of the water in our pursuit of Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk.
While the Dutchman was mightily impressed by Jurgen Klopp’s vision for Liverpool’s future, the Citizens are offering him £200k/week and will shell out £60m on the transfer.
It’s mind-boggling, absurd money for a centre-back with 15 international caps and one and a half good seasons for a mid-table club.
Van Dijk’s clearly a very good centre-back, but how can Liverpool realistically double our record transfer fee and pay the 25-year-old £50k week more than Coutinho…?
Here’s what fans are saying on Twitter, anyway..
I don’t want to hear a word about “not wanting Van Dijk” or “he’s not worth it”… best centre back in the league. Worth whatever it takes.

Like I wanted us to get Van Dijk. But playing really well in Southampton for a while doesn’t mean £60m and £200k-a-week is worth it.

To be honest I think that all the media talk has people thinking Van Dijk is better than he is. A good defender but the figures are obscene.

£60 million for van Dijk? Wtf is wrong with the world lol. Pure madness ?

We all want him but 60m and 200k/week is a joke. They are taking the piss with that transfer fee and wages

Yes I want him but at that price you could buy 2 CB similar to him

He was impressed by Klopp’s vision but blown away by City’s offer.
So are we really doing whatever it takes?!
