Le Tissier labels Southampton ‘foolish’ in Van Dijk saga

The greatest player in Southampton’s history Matt Le Tissier, who’s still a huge supporter of his former club, has reacted to the embarrassing Virgil Van Dijk transfer saga…

Le Tissier reckons Liverpool have been made to look a laughing stock, but that ultimately Southampton may regret turning down such enormous sums of money for a player who no longer wants to be at St. Mary’s.

He said: “I remember the days when Liverpool used to be quite classy in transfer negotiations.

“If a club came in with a world record bid, it’s foolish for Southampton to turn that down.

“But with what’s gone on it would be highly unlikely, even if Virgil puts a transfer request in, he’d go to Liverpool this summer.”

So the Premier League would drop an investigation into illegally approaching the Dutch star, Liverpool issued an apology to Southampton yesterday and promised to end their interest too.

Southampton have accepted the apology, but Liverpool fans are reeling – confused how we could make such grave errors in the transfer market when chasing our primary target.

Jurgen Klopp is holidaying in Iceland and will no doubt be furious that those left in charge of negotiations have botched the job quite so spectacularly.

The times Le Tissier remembers us being ‘classy’ in the market seem a distant memory, it has to be said.
