Before today, we’d heard of Manuel Akanji, but that was about it… We’d come across his name during the Champions League, for whom he’s been starring for FC Basel, especially in a win against Manchester United.
But it’s not until we heard that Liverpool are heavily interested that we’ve paid much attention. We imagine most of the fanbase will be the same.
So here’s the deal: he’s 22, a Switzerland regular, 6ft.2′ and wonderfully two-footed.
Watch these highlights below. You’ll see Akanji clipping and spreading the ball all over the pitch with left and right. He seems pretty quick, too, which is essential to Liverpool considering how exposed our centre-backs can be.
The Independent reckon he could sign, providing we wait until summer 2018.
