Virgil van Dijk’s long-term central defensive target won’t be Manuel Akanji.
The 22-year-old Swiss has officially signed for Borussia Dortmund and today the club announced the deal via their Twitter account.

Akanji has been exceptional for FC Basel, especially in the Champions League, so we’re slightly disappointed to have missed out on this one.
Despite purchasing van Dijk for £75m, Liverpool could do with another central defender, with neither Joel Matip or Dejan Lovren filling us with huge amounts of confidence.
We’re not sure Joe Gomez is the option in the heart of defence, yet, although his development is very impressive.
