Carra makes bold PL sack prediction: ‘He’ll be gone by Monday’

Jamie Carragher thinks Chelsea, one of our biggest competitors for a top four spot, will fire Antonio Conte this week.

The Blues lost 4-1 to Watford last night, with Tiemoue Bakoyoko sent off in the first-half, following their 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth last week.

We’re now one point clear of Chelsea in third place. In 2018, Conte’s seen his side win just two of ten games – and the pundit reckons Roman Abramovich will get rid.

“There’s a good chance he could go before then [next Monday’s game v West Brom],” Carra told Sky Sports last night.

“Not just because of how Chelsea are playing of late but because of Chelsea’s history of changing managers when the club fear they are not going to make the Champions League.

“They did it with [Andre] Villas-Boas, [Roberto] Di Matteo, [Jose] Mourinho as well.

“It looks to me when I hear him speak in press conferences I wouldn’t say he wants to be sacked but it doesn’t look like it’d be the worst thing in the world if it happened.

“It’s almost like he’s testing the board at Chelsea.

“He’s prodding and poking them in press conferences and interviews and that will not go down well with Roman Abramovich.”

Conte’s an exceptional manager. After all, he won the title last season with a not dissimilar group of players, but we’d also be surprised if he lasts until the summer.

The Blues have a horrible upcoming fixture list which includes two ties with Barcelona, Manchester City and Manchester United this February, and may want to get someone in to reinvigorate the squad.

Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique would be an option, although in fairness, he wouldn’t scare us too much. Maybe Carlo Ancelotti will get another crack at the whip.
