Fans baffled by one key absence vs Brighton, but Klopp has a very good explanation

Some Liverpool fans have been left baffled by Fabinho being left out of the matchday squad again today against Brighton.

The Brazilian did not have the most convincing pre-season and is yet to make an appearance for us in the Premier League.

Starting out on the bench in our opening day win over West Ham, Fabinho was then left out of the squad altogether as we won away at Crystal Palace.

That’s the case again today for the Brighton game, and some fans seem surprised and concerned by his omission, despite Jurgen Klopp giving a perfectly good explanation on the official site earlier today.

“It is about players understanding the position and who else is available as well – otherwise Fabinho would have been involved in the squad, as he was in the first week,” he said.

“That is it. It is different football to what he is used to but he is improving already with big steps. I can see that in the sessions and that is cool.

“You see Andy Robertson running around here at Melwood now and he’s a completely different person to the one who was here in the first three months. That’s how it is, but everything will be fine,” he said.

“Fabinho is used to playing at a high level in France. It is not about who we play but about how we play. For sure it is not nice for a new player. It never was but it is all fine.”

It’s not easy adjusting to the way Klopp has us playing, and has he points out, Andrew Robertson and others have taken some time before really exploding into top form for us.

I doubt very much we would’ve spent so much on Fabinho and immediately found a problem the club wouldn’t have been prepared for. Give it time and he will surely be a quality signing for us.
