Last night, Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded UEFA Forward of the year during the ceremony that also saw Liverpool draw PSG, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade in this season’s Champions League Group Stages.

He was up against Mo Salah, Liverpool’s Egyptian forward who helped us reach the final last year, only to be injured by Sergio Ramos early on and have his dream ruined.

Salah though claimed he was proud to have been nominated at all.

“When you do something for the first time, nobody has done it as an Egyptian before, something great, it’s something I have to be proud of,” Salah said, cited in the Star.

“There are 100million Egyptians who see me as a role model.

“That’s something I have to be very proud of.

“Sometimes you feel pressure because of that but it also makes you work harder to do your job better and better and better.”

UEFA sat Salah right in front of Ramos, who touched Mo’s shoulder upon his walk to his seat after collecting Defender of the Year. The moment went viral, but we’re delighted Salah blanked the horrible Spaniard.

Hopefully Liverpool can get through Group C and potentially draw Real Madrid in the latter stages.

The atmosphere at Anfield would be beyond electric following the injustices of Kiev and it’s time Ramos got the treatment he deserves.
