Brazilian superstar Neymar had a tough night against the brilliant James Milner and imperious Trent Alexander-Arnold on Tuesday, but the PSG man – who spent much of the World Cup on the floor – was more than happy to congratulate international teammate Roberto Firmino.
The Reds deservedly won the game, completely dominating in large spells against the French champions, and while Neymar was kept quiet on the field, in the Anfield tunnel he was pleased for Firmino, who struck a late winner.
Every Liverpool fan was keen to see Milner’s crunching tackle go in on the Brazilian, and for Sadio Mane to turn him inside out on the edge of his own penalty area, but he showed class off the pitch.
Cameras in the mixed zone caught Neymar speaking to his friend Firmino. According to the Mirror, he told Liverpool’s number nine: “Congratulations, you played great.”
It was a nice moment for the two to share; they will meet again in November when Liverpool head to Paris.
If Neymar was that impressed with Firmino and Liverpool, he would be more than welcome to join us, although you’d imagine he wouldn’t want to face Alexander-Arnold in training too often!
