Virgil van Dijk has warned that Liverpool are in it to win it in every competition this season.
The Reds continued their outstanding start to the campaign on Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League Group Stage opener.
This extended their winning run to six games, with Liverpool having already become the first team in 110 years to win each of their first five top-flight fixtures but not be in first place.
Bolstered strength in depth has seemingly put Jurgen Klopp’s men in a better position to compete on all fronts, although Premier League glory undoubtedly prevails as the priority.
Van Dijk said: “This is a great time to be a Liverpool player,” per the Guardian.
“Everyone is excited, everyone wants to be a part of it and though we know the season is very long, with four competitions to play in, we want to win everything. That is basically our mindset.”
“You need to have ambitions, and with the size of this club and its history we are going to try to win everything. It is going to be hard, and there will be days when we have downs, but we have shown we can react to tough situations and at the moment I am not worried about anything”
A league-leading summer spending spree on the back of successive top four finishes and a Champions League final spot has fuelled a feeling on Merseyside that the club has never been better equipped to compete for Premier League glory.
Notable additions have meanwhile given Klopp a greater licence to rotate as he looks to juggle his side’s league progress with domestic cup competitions.
Van Dijk himself has previewed an instrumental role in everything Liverpool might go on to achieve, burying doubts over his £75million transfer fee with a monumental impact since his introduction.
The Dutchman has started the season in formidable fashion, shrugging aside every challenge to come his way and teasing one of the club’s most exciting centre-back pairings in years with Joe Gomez.
Rarely has there been such a strong belief in the modern Premier League era that this club is on the verge of something special.
