Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi was on target twice on Wednesday night as he was central to Gent’s Croky Cup victory over Virton.
Awoniyi’s two headers put his team through to the last-16 of the competition in Belgium as they beat the Belgian fourth-tier side.
On loan for the season, Awoniyi headed into the back of the net on three minutes to give his side the lead.
He then scored an 89th-minute winner to make it 2-3 before teammate Stallone Limbombe added another goal to make the victory safe.
The game finished 4-2 to Gent with Awoniyi’s brace crucial to them progressing in the competition. Those two goals add to the goal he notched in Europa League qualifying for Gent against Jagiellonia Bialystok of Poland.
We all hope that Awoniyi can make it back at the first team; keep scoring clinical goals like these and he will give himself a chance.
