Ex-Reds midfielder Steve McManaman hit the nail on the head with his post-match comments for BT Sport after Liverpool’s dismal performance against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
Via Football London, he said: “I thought Liverpool would create far more chances. They were pretty toothless tonight; we don’t normally say that about them.
“Tonight they had a couple of chances on target but very little. Even their substitutes didn’t do anything. Firmino, Origi didn’t have an impact on the game. Very disappointing.
“You understood the move to bring Firmino on. Someone had to give way. It was Daniel [Sturridge] because he was playing in that position but it could have been anyone. Mane struggled tonight. Salah wasn’t his usual effervescent self.”
Not one player can come out of the game thinking he played well – although Red Star do deserve credit. The Reds need to bounce back quickly and put together a string of results from here after a really disappointing display.
