Virgil van Dijk has shared the moment he was told Joe Gomez had signed a new long-term deal at Liverpool.
The Englishman was rewarded for his impressive form at the club on Monday with an extension set to keep him at Anfield until 2024.
Gomez’s excellent start to the campaign has predominantly taken place next to Van Dijk as part of a formidable and ever-improving centre-back pairing.
Besides serving as major influences behind Liverpool’s outstanding defensive record, the duo have also evidently built a strong bond behind-the-scenes.
The latter moves into full lens in the footage of Van Dijk’s superb reaction to his teammate’s news.

Discussing Van Dijk in the summer, Gomez told Liverpoolfc.com: “I personally get on well with him, both in terms of what we’re into and banter-wise.”
“As I said, we get on well off the pitch – he’s like my big brother. It’s a pleasure to play with him and it’s about learning from him.”
The Dutchman has proven a perfect role model for the 21-year-old during his time on Merseyside, with the pair teasing the potential to become the top defensive partnership in the Premier League.
He is now facing six weeks without his colleague as Gomez recovers from a fractured leg he sustained in last Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Burnley.
Roll on their reunion.
