Brilliant – Salah comforts unimpressed Lovren after celebrating with Fabinho

Mohamed Salah felt the need to explain himself after celebrating with Fabinho in front of teammate and close friend Dejan Lovren.

The pair ran to greet each other after Salah’s superb corner assisted the Brazilian’s first goal for Liverpool in their 4-0 Boxing Day win over Newcastle.

An image of the duo together includes Lovren looking lonely in the background at the sight of his companion sharing a moment with someone else.

The Croatian has struck quite the bond with the club’s scoring talisman having played a key role in helping him settle back into life in England upon his arrival in 2017.

In a message directed at Lovren on Twitter, Salah wrote: “Really, we were just being friendly.”

All three in question were amongst the goals on the day, with Lovren having opened the scoring with an emphatic half-volley following some poor Newcastle defending.

Salah doubled the Reds’ tally from the penalty spot early in the second half after going down under a pull from Paul Dummett.

Xherdan Shaqiri then made it three in the 79th minute, before second half substitute Fabinho got in on the act with a close-range header to wrap up the points.
