Xherdan Shaqiri came agonisingly close to equalising for Liverpool against Wolves with a superb free-kick in Monday night’s FA Cup clash at Molineux.
The Swiss international saw his effort rifle onto the post, along with the help of an outstanding fingertip from goalkeeper John Ruddy.
Wolves had gone ahead in the first half through Raúl Jiménez, before Divock Origi fired in an equaliser against the run of play six minutes after the restart.
Ruben Neves soon restored the hosts’ lead when he beat Simon Mignolet with a trademark long-range strike after Liverpool had given the ball away sloppily.
Shaqiri almost levelled things up again when his shot somehow managed to stay out after hitting the inside of Ruddy’s post.
