Former City man thinks Liverpool have upper hand in the title race

The race for the Premier League title has been close since the turn on the year and, with five games remaining for Liverpool, there isn’t any room for error.

Manchester City looked as if they were going to dominate again in the early stages of the season, but the Reds fought back and very nearly cleared the Manchester club by seven points a few months ago.

Now both teams are neck and neck as they both fight for domestic glory; the Reds have played an extra game than City and now sit two points ahead of the reigning champions.

It’d be safe to say a lot of people consider City as the favourites, but TalkSport pundit Stuart Pearce believes Liverpool still have the edge in this race.

The weight of games [that Man City have] is just too much [to win a quadruple],” he said. “I tipped Liverpool to win the league last summer and I still think they’re going to do that.

There’s a lot of football to be played between now and the end of the season, and I think it will take its toll.

He’s right about one thing: City have gone the distance in the FA Cup and League Cup and they’re just as far as we are in the Champions League – they must be knackered!

With some tricky fixtures coming up in the league for City, such as Crystal Palace, Spurs, Leicester and Manchester United, let’s hope Pearce is right.
