(Video): Ki-Jana Hoever FK helps Netherlands retain U17 European crown

The Netherlands’ Under-17 side kept hold of their European Championship title by beating Italy 4-2 in Sunday’s final in Dublin.

After Ajax’s Sontje Hansen found the opener, our own Ki-Jana Hoever took a well-placed free kick that came back off the post for Naoufal Bannis to make it 2-0 with a rebounded finish.

The 17-year-old took his free kick with venom and was unfortunate not to see the ball bulging in the back of the net.

A goal from Ian Maatsen make it three before half-time, before Lorenzo Colombo scored to give Italy a goal back. The Italian found another late on, but that was after Naci Unuvar had already put the young Dutch four up and the game out of sight.

It’s a big win for Hoever, who could potentially see his time at Anfield rewarded with a place on the bench in the coming season, having already made his debut in the FA Cup tie against Wolves when Dejan Lovren was forced off early on.

With Virgil van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum, our ranks are already filled with talented Oranje, but time will tell what pre-season has in store for the young Hoever in Jürgen Klopp’s side.
