Klopp wanted this Serie A goalkeeper before Alisson; but we’re mighty glad he didn’t get him…

Liverpool’s best transfers under Jurgen Klopp haven’t necessarily been our first-choice options.

Remember, we wanted Mario Gotze before ‘settling’ for Sadio Mane – and Julian Brandt before turning our attention to Mo Salah!

And according to Italian outlet Corriere Della Sera, Lazio stopper Thomas Strakosha was high on our wish-list before we broke the bank for Alisson after the 2018 Champions League Final.

The 24-year-old Albanian is a decent stopper and he’s actually being looked at by various Premier League clubs this summer – but he’s no Alisson!

Our Brazilian is arguably the best goalkeeper on the planet right now, having performed exceptionally in our European Cup victory two weeks ago.

A recent report by CIES labelled Alisson the World’s Most Valuable keeper, just ahead of Manchester City’s Ederson, who he keeps out of Brazil’s net.

We’d suggest that buying Alisson was just as important to our success as Virgil van Dijk, Salah, Mane or anybody else.

He’s by some distance the best keeper we’ve seen at Anfield – which is high praise considering how good Pepe Reina was at his peak.

And next season, he’ll be even better.
