According to Fotomac, via Sport Witness, the Reds are keen on acquiring the services of young Besiktas midfielder Dorukhan Tokoz.
Rivalling Arsenal and Serie A side, Udinese, for the 23-year-old’s signature, we’ve apparently been alerted to his availability and promising potential.
Part of the impressive Turkey squad that beat France 2-0 in the recent international break, Tokoz managed to capitalise on some poor defending to help set up the second and has also shone for his club in the Super Lig.
Lessons learned today
– Cengiz Under is a huge asset to the team
– Okay Yokuşlu & Mahmut Tekdemir were sorely missed
– Abdülkadir Ömur / Yusuf Yazıcı should move ahead Hakan Çalhanoğlu in the pecking order
– Dorukhan Toköz & Irfan Can Kahveci have earned their place in the team— Turkish Football (@Turkish_Futbol1) June 11, 201
An €8 million offer from Udiense has already been knocked back, so we would have to come up with something a bit more attractive than that to convince Besiktas to sell.
The report also suggests the Reds have been monitoring Tokoz’s match performances of late and it could be that we simply keep tabs on the midfielder for a future bid further down the line.
As Champions League winners we’re unsure if Tokoz is quite at the level we require, though he could be one for the future. This window seems to be about purchasing depth and covering holes.
With Marko Grujic being a similar type of player (albeit more rangy and slightly more offensive), we feel the Serbian would be a better option if Jürgen Klopp wants reserve options for the middle of the park.
That said, the Turkish midfielder’s contract with Besiktas runs to the end of June 2021 so let’s wait and see on this one.
