Champions League hero will stay at Liverpool this summer, claims respected journalist

With the role Divock Origi has had to play at Liverpool this season, it was unclear if the Belgian international would remain at Anfield.

It still remains to be seen if his long-term future is with the Reds, but the club are willing to lose him on a free next summer if it means he’ll stick around for next season.

That’s according to well-respected journalist Melissa Reddy who claims that Liverpool will not even consider moving on Origi this summer.

Fresh terms are on the table and if the striker (who is happy to remain on Merseyside in 2019/20) doesn’t sign, it wouldn’t be because of money, as per the same report.

Opinion

I’d like to see us keep Origi long-term; I’m uncertain as to how happy being a bit part player at Anfield would make him, but he’s probably the most accomplished back-up forward in the Premier League.

The goals the Belgian international scored last season will not be forgotten by Liverpool fans. They’ll go down in the club’s folklore – like Steven Gerrard’s screamer against Olympiacos.

Should Origi decide to call it time after next season, fair play to the lad, we can’t expect a player of his apparent ability to be happy on the bench 24/7.
