Liverpool defender set for La Liga switch – report

Villarreal have agreed to sign Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno upon the expiration of his contract at the Anfield club, according to Spanish outlet MARCA.

The full back will leave the club on the highest of highs as the Reds secured their sixth Champions League title earlier this month – having missed out on the Europa League and a possible second CL title in previous seasons.

Moreno signed for Liverpool from Sevilla in 2014 for just over £15million, but will now leave the club on July 1st after a new contract wasn’t agreed for the speedy Spaniard.

Alby barely featured for the Reds last season, and hasn’t enjoyed the best years of his career on Merseyside, but he’ll be remembered fondly for the celebrations in Madrid.

The full back has gone home to rebuild a career that once had him in the Spain national team – there was an option to join Sevilla, as per the same report, but manager Julen Lopetegui prefers the option of Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilon.

Moreno will join Raul Albiol as reinforcements for Villarreal’s defence, and former Arsenal man Santi Cazorla on Spain’s east coast.

An agreement was struck after a few weeks of talks following Liverpool’s Champions League triumph in Madrid at the beginning of the month.
