LFC’s Champions League hero could settle on future after holiday

Football Insider have claimed Divock Origi is set to sign a new long-term contract after Jürgen Klopp spoke with the Reds cult hero while on holiday.

The outlet also claim the new terms involve a five-year deal and a salary raise, reward for the Belgian’s pivotal performances in the 2018/19 season which included the semi-final slaying of Barcelona.

Apparently, a “Liverpool source” told Football Insider that the 24-year-old has yet to give a clear repsonse to the purported offer of new terms, but remain hopeful he will do so after Klopp’s words.

Their report claims Klopp gave assurances to Origi that he will have a significant part to play in the upcoming season despite competition for attacking places remaining as fierce as it was last season.

Of course, it’s not just decisive goals that would have persuaded Klopp to offer fresh terms to the Belgian, it’s his dedication and attitude in training, and willingness to be a team player, that would have swayed the boss.

The brace against Barça, sealing the deal in Madrid, late drama against Everton and Newcastle – Origi finished last season with seven goals in 21 appearances and has done enough to remain at Anfield.

Ten appearances at centre-forward and nine stationed out on the left-wing, like it or not, Origi could already be Klopp’s answer to the versatile attacking option that has been spoken of this summer.
