According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the reliable Italian journalist, Nicolas Pepe’s agent wants his client to choose Arsenal over the Reds or Napoli for one reason: commission.
It was reported yesterday that the Reds are one of four clubs to have agreed a fee with Lille for the player, but that agent’s fees would have a big impact on his decision. That now appears to have been backed up.
It seems odd to us that Arsenal would be able to offer the £72 million fee that Lille want for the 22-goal winger given their transfer budget for the whole summer was thought to be little more than half that amount.
Add in a big commission for his agent, as well as the wages that Pepe would demand, and it doesn’t seem to add up.
If Pepe’s decision is based mainly on which club will offer him and his agent the most money, though, it’s probably best for the Reds to steer clear.
