Despite a sluggish and unconvincing pre-season performance against Napoli, today’s new arrival, Harvey Elliott, came on for his Liverpool debut together with three other youngsters late on in proceedings.
Moments after coming off the bench, Elliott won a corner for the Reds – the resulting effort got cleared, came back in, and Napoli nearly turned the ball into their own net for an own goal. Somehow that was one of the closest chances the Reds had to get a goal at Murrayfield.
He also showed remarkable confidence taking on a difficult shot that rose over the bar as the Reds hunted for a goal in Edinburgh.
While it’s arguably not the greatest situation to make a bow for the Reds, he certainly caught the eye despite not having many minutes to make a mark.
The injection of young blood added some intensity to a game that lacked a cutting-edge and was marked by some nonchalance and questionable defending.
It was a hard day at the office for the Reds and a day to forget, but for the 16-year-old running out for his boyhood club, it’s one he’ll always remember.

We may have lost that game miserably, but my goodness, how good does Harvey Elliott look already?!

Youngests putting in a good account of themselves in the second half. I like that Wilson has the confidence to take shots on
Surprised to see Harvey Elliott so soon. Whirlwind 24 hours for the lad. Looked sharp aswell
