With mere minutes to go, and the pre-season defeat to Napoli moments from confirmation, Harry Wilson endeavoured to find a final flourish to give the Reds a consolation goal.
Picking up the ball outside of the area, the 22-year-old followed the motions of his usual modus operandi – keeping parallel to the eighteen-yard box and drawing opponents towards him, he let fly with a fierce, long-range effort that forced Alex Meret into a full-stretch save.
Had it gone in, it would have been at least one of few minor rays of light in the defeat to Napoli.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for the Welshman at Anfield, but a training camp in Evian before the final pre-season against Lyon could give Jürgen Klopp more to consider.
