Tottenham player Harry Winks has fired a warning at Liverpool and Manchester City, following Spurs picking up a point at the Etihad over the weekend.
The midfielder believes that they exposed flaws in City’s game which will be taken advantage of this season, and thinks that should worry the Reds too.
“I think they [City and Liverpool] should worry about us,” he’s quoted as saying by the Star. “We’ve shown in the last few years we can compete with the best teams in the Premier League and Europe.
“It’s important we do that on a consistent basis this season and it’s important we go to places like City and Liverpool and get results.
“The manager doesn’t allow fear in us. We don’t go into any game beaten mentally. We go into every game knowing we can win and we can outperform them.
“Our mentality going into every game is to be on the front foot, press and try to win. That’s probably why we came away with a good point.”
While I see the points Harry is making, Spurs were absolutely dominated by City over the weekend. Fair play – they held their own, but frustration after the VAR decision only shows how the home side believed they deserved to win.
Spurs are the third best club in the Premier League, there’s no denying. After Liverpool and City, it’s them, and we should actually take on board what Winks has said.
The Londoners have improved over the summer, and they’re certain to tighten the gap us and City put between the rest of the league last season.
All that being said, Tottenham travel to Anfield next month so we’ll see if they fare better than they did in Madrid then.
