How do pundits see the Reds faring against Newcastle?

Liverpool will be overwhelming favourites when they face Newcastle in their fifth league game of the season on Saturday lunchtime.

The Reds are looking to maintain their perfect start and extend their club-record top-flight winning streak to 14.

And they have been backed to do so, with ease, by club legend Mark Lawrenson.

Lawro reckons Jurgen Klopp’s side will succeed where Tottenham last month failed in breaking down a regimented defence.

He’s gone for a 3-0 home win in his BBC Sport predictions.

“Newcastle’s best performance of the season came in their win at Tottenham before the international break, when they circled the wagons,” he said.

“I am sure Magpies boss Steve Bruce is going to set up his side the same way, camped in their own half to try to stifle Liverpool, but I don’t see it working this time.

“The Reds are playing extremely well, and they have got more ways of scoring than most other teams that Newcastle will face. Jurgen Klopp’s side will find a way through.”

Sky Sports‘ Charlie Nicholas thinks it will be a closer-run game, but doesn’t see a way for the visitors to blunt Liverpool’s attack.

The Scot has tipped us to win 2-0.

“I don’t know who will be fit for Liverpool or whether they will go with the formidable front three, but at the moment Liverpool look as though they can wipe the floor with most teams,” he said.

“You cannot open up against them. Joelinton needs time and will not get any service. We will see how structured Newcastle can be at the back – they will have been working hard defensively.”

We’re averaging three goals a game so far, and we’ll be confident of another healthy tally this time around.
