Former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam believes that he should have stayed at Anfield to fight for his place, but has no regrets over joining Stoke City.
The Scot was instrumental in Blackpool’s ascent to the Premier League, but couldn’t resist the allure of Liverpool when we came knocking in 2011.
The midfielder got off to a bright start, with ten assists in his debut season and a couple of goals to speak of, but it was pretty clear his future wasn’t at Anfield.
He left Liverpool the following summer and joined up with Stoke City in the summer of 2012, but Adam admits that he may have jumped ship too soon.
While taking part in a Q&A on Instagram, he was asked whether he should have stayed to fight for his place – and he agreed that he should have.
Alas, Adam moved on and enjoyed relative success at Stoke before joining Reading this summer as a free agent.
He’ll be remembered fondly by Rangers, Blackpool and Stoke fans, that’s for sure, but I’m certain he’ll be wondering what could’ve been if he dug his heels in at Anfield.
