Former Red Danny Murphy has bizarrely claimed that Jurgen Klopp would jump at the chance to have Marcus Rashford and Daniel James at Liverpool.
The Reds sit atop the Premier League table on 21 points and United sit in the bottom half with eight, but Murphy thinks United aren’t a million miles behind Klopp’s Liverpool.
“United need more quality to catch up to their rivals but that doesn’t mean they don’t have any at the club. I think Jurgen Klopp would take Marcus Rashford and Daniel James all day long,” he told the Daily Mail.
“They would fit in with his philosophy very well.”
He is probably right – Rashford and James stand out as two players at United that would also perform well under Klopp, but they’d be nowhere near our starting team.
Rashford would be lucky to be ahead of Divock Origi, even though he’d likely find himself ahead of Rhian Brewster, and James would probably only feature in Cup games.
It’s not that these players are bad – it’s more to do with the state of the current United crop. Both clubs are on different levels at the moment.
Given Rashford and James’ ages though, our biggest rivals do have two solid stars for the future.
