Berbatov explains what must happen for LFC target to thrive in England

Kai Havertz, linked to Liverpool today in the Echo, is one of the best young talents in Europe.

The Germany international has been tearing up the Bundesliga for over a year now while playing for Bayer Leverkusen.

He scores goals, creates chances, wins the ball back and dribbles. At 20-years-old, his potential ceiling is incredibly high.

Former Leverkusen striker Dimitar Berbatov, who excelled in the Premier League for Tottenham and Manchester United, has explained how while he’s heard genuine links between English clubs and Havertz – the youngster will need to bulk up to succeed over here.

“I have been to watch him a few times at Leverkusen,” Berbatov told Goal. “Many people are watching him, I can tell you that because I have big ears. I know who is talking to him. Lots of scouts are watching him. He needs to improve on a lot of things to get better.

“If he comes to England he needs to work on his physique a bit. You don’t need to be big but you do need to be strong and lean. He is a great talent. He is good on the ball, technical, gives the right pass and can finish.

“The only way for him is up.”

Naby Keita struggled early on at Liverpool as he was getting pushed off the ball in midfield, so perhaps the added physicality of our game is something players who do well in Germany need to get used to.

Havertz would be a fantasy signing next summer, alongside Jadon Sancho, also mentioned in the Echo article we linked to – but in all honesty there’s no guarantee either would get in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI!

The boss has a tried and trusted formulae and players he implicitly trusts.

Now, their job is to win him and us the Premier League.

Going into the next round of matches, we have an eight point lead – but there’s a very long way to go!
