Carragher tips Keita to add dynamism to Liverpool’s midfield

It’s not news that Liverpool’s midfield trio don’t often score goals. That is the job of the front three, but I do write this as James Milner recently tucked away a few spot kicks.

That being said, we rarely see our midfielders score from open play, with Gini Wijnaldum perhaps being the most likely to find the back of the net.

But before we lash £40million on someone in the January transfer window, there is a couple of people we forgot to mention.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are two dynamic midfielders that have an eye for goal – we don’t have the same level of goal threat when they’re not on the field.

And it’s the Guinea international that will supposedly add something different to our team, according to club legend Jamie Carragher.

If he brings what he was supposed to bring, that would add something that was maybe lacking slightly in the midfield, said the Sky Sports pundit (via Rush The Kop). “I think the one before Liverpool look to the transfer market is Naby Keita,”

Carra is absolutely spot on, as Keita’s injury record is the only reason he hasn’t been banging in the goals for us.

Toward the tail end of last season, Naby managed to string together a number of influential performances and even grabbed himself a couple of goals – one of which may have been ruled as an OG in the Champions League, but we’ll take it.

The thing is – we don’t need to buy a new player for midfield – we just need to make sure Keita stays fit, and with the way he’s being eased back into the side now, I expect that won’t be too hard.
