John Aldridge savages Martin Atkinson as VAR frustrates the Reds

The Reds are in action against Aston Villa in the Premier League this afternoon but are one goal down at the time of writing thanks to a goal from Trezeguet.

The Villa goal looked very to be a very tight call but was given as being onside, before Roberto Firmino had one chalked off that looked onside (take a look for yourself by clicking here).

Speaking on Liverpool’s audio commentary for the official website, John Aldridge was not impressed.

After the opener, he said: “That’s offside. That’s just shocking. Atkinson again… he just does not give Liverpool anything unless he has to.”

The same kind of vibe from the ex-Red continued. Firmino’s goal was then seemingly wrongly ruled out, Sadio Mane was booked for diving when there was contact in the box, and Jurgen Klopp was becoming increasingly agitated.

He later added with disbelief: “I’m sick of talking about the referees.”

The Reds have not had the best of first halves,  but even so, are very unfortunate to be a goal down.
