It has been a pretty good 24 hours for Liverpool.
Yesterday, we smashed six past Aston Villa for our joint-best Premier League away win, and today we seem poised to complete the free transfer coup of an established Bundesliga defender.
The Echo reports that we have reached a pre-contract agreement with Joel Matip to sign the Schalke defender when his deal with the German club expires at the end of the season.
An announcement is expected from the Schalke end at a press conference this afternoon, with Matip poised to become Jurgen Klopp’s second addition as manager after Marko Grujic.
Reds fans on Twitter are really happy with this coup. One supporter thinks that Matip is an improvement on our current defensive options, and another reckons he’s the next Sami Hyypia!

Joel Matip is a decent defender, Klopp knows better than most of the Twitter trained scouts! And on a free? Bargain.

Joel Matip is a top signing. Finally we have a commanding CB. We haven’t had one since Hyypia. #LFC
