Philippe Coutinho has been talking about the between the players in the Liverpool squad – but there is one player he says he gets along with particularly well.
That man is fellow countryman Roberto Firmino.
The two have formed a formidable partnership on the pitch, and Philippe has now revealed that they are also great friends off it.
“We have a good understanding,” Coutinho said.
“I really enjoy playing with Roberto and we are close friends. We both speak Portuguese. The two of us, plus Lucas and Alberto (Moreno), spend time together away from football.
“Roberto is a top player. He works so hard to make the best of his ability every day.”
The two are the same age have got to know each other well at both club and international level. Coutinho was signed in January 2013 and Firmino followed him to Anfield two and half years later in the summer of 2015.
“I knew Roberto from the national team. I knew that Liverpool had signed a player with real quality,” Coutinho added.
“He didn’t have many difficulties when he joined because he came from a very good league. He adapted very quickly to the demands of English football and everyone now sees how important he is for us.”
Firmino has become the first name on the teamsheet with a series of top-class performance, but with three goals in six games, Coutinho is not far behind him.
It will be interesting to see where Klopp plays them this weekend? With Firmino be the number nine or the number ten? Let us know what you think…
